The Mount Hope Missionary Baptist Church, was organized in 1959. Many have come and gone in the
position of Senior Pastor, but Rev. John C. Smith has been the Pastor since April
1998. He served as assistant Pastor from 1990 until April 26, 1998, when he was
called to be Senior Pastor. He is still serving faithfully along with his wife Sis Lorraine Smith.

The mission of the church is outreach and in reach, to lead the lost to Christ,
feed the hungry and clothe the naked. To visit the sick, and shut in, and those
that are behind prison walls. To encourage the hopeless of heart and equip the
saints for the work of the ministry.
 

Our theme is Staying the Course and we will stay the course until Jesus returns.
On June 7 th , 2019, the Freedom Missionary Baptist Church, under the leadership
of Rev. Irving Gray and his wife Sis Janice Gray merged with Mt Hope. Pastor
Smith felt God’s leading to join forces with Pastor Gray to develop a body of
believers committed to God’s word, and to winning souls for Christ.
 

Our mission is to know Jesus and to make Jesus known. To reach up, reach out
and reach in. To share God’s hope and freedom and love with all who come
seeking. Our passion is to see people know Christ and be able to enjoy life by
applying biblical principles on a daily basis.

Before the pandemic, our outreach ministries consisted of Hearthstone
Convalescent Home, Street Feeding Ministry on Galletti Way, Washoe County
Detention Center and Hosanna Home Women’s Transitional shelter. We are still
serving at the Hosanna Home and look forward to God’s timing to move back
into our other ministries.
